  • Flash Flood Warning for…
    South Central Cumberland County in southwestern Maine…
  • Until noon EST.
  • At 919 AM EST, The combination of heavy rainfall and anomalously
    high tide levels will severely impact drainage near the coast in
    the City of Portland. High tide in Portland will occur around 1015
    am peaking above major flood stage of 14 feet. Meanwhile, moderate
    to heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the warned area
    into the early afternoon. Excessive runoff will encounter tidal
    inundation resulting in backwater and poor drainage. In
    particular…flooding is possible between Commercial Street and
    Marginal Way. Heavy rainfall of 1 to 2 inches has fallen over the
    Portland area, with an additional 1 to 2 inches possible. HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by heavy rainfall and backwater
    from anomalously high tides. SOURCE…Radar. IMPACT…Flash flooding of urban areas and underpasses as well
    as other poor drainage and low-lying areas near
    Portland Harbor.
  • Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…
    Portland, South Portland, Falmouth, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough,

    flood-prone locations. Small streams will be rise rapidly and
    could flood low water crossings. Expect significant disruption to
    the morning commute with deteriorating conditions throughout the
    day.
  • WHERE…Portions of Maine, including the following counties,
    Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln,
    Oxford, Sagadahoc, Waldo and York. Portions of New Hampshire,
    including the following counties, Belknap, Carroll, Cheshire,
    Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, Strafford and Sullivan.
  • WHEN…Until noon EST Friday, with additional warnings possible
    thereafter.
  • IMPACTS…Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
    and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
  • At 502 AM EST, Heavy rainfall and rapid snowmelt is
    occurring, and will cause widespread flooding. Additional
    rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned
    area. Snow-blocked drainage will exasperate flooding.
  • A threat for flash flooding exists if heavy rain continues
    over the same locations for an extended period. Please report
    flooding to the National Weather Service or local officials.

  • WHERE…Souhegan River at Milford.
  • WHEN…From this morning to late this evening.
  • IMPACTS…At 9.5 feet, Water begins to flood a portion of Route
    101A in Milford. Water begins to flood the property of the
    Milford water utilites department, properties on Intervale Road in
    Wilton, and the Monadnock Water parking lot.
    At 10.0 feet, Floodwaters inundate a portion of Route 101A in
    Milford and spread into property of the Milford water utilities
    department and Granite Town Plaza. Floodwaters encroach on low
    lying properties in Wilton including some on Intervale Road and
    Monadnock Water.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
  • At 9:45 AM EST Friday the stage was 8.9 feet.
  • Forecast…The river is expected to rise to a crest of 9.9
    feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late
    this afternoon.
  • Flood stage is 9.0 feet.

Good Afternoon,

A large winter storm with a variety of impacts is expected to impact the region beginning tonight and continuing through early Saturday. SKYWARN Activation is requested for this period for all areas. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we would request remote coverage of WX1GYX.

Of particular concern for this event include:

  • Coastal flood reports
  • Wind speed/damage reports
  • Rainfall totals
  • Pictures of flooding of any type
  • Snowfall reports (precipitation may start as snow in northern areas)

Any method possible to send in reports is acceptable, with the preferred method being population of the SKYWARN NET Reporting Google Sheet.
