SKYWARN Activation Requested – 03/12/22

Good Morning,

SKYWARN Activation is requested on Saturday for a late season winter storm that is expected to bring rain and snow to the region with precipitation changing to snow Saturday afternoon and evening before precipitation ends and strong winds develop Saturday night. Reports of snowfall, rainfall, flooding, and wind gusts would be greatly appreciated.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we would request remote coverage of WX1GYX.

Any method possible to send in reports is acceptable, with the preferred method being population of the SKYWARN NET Reporting Google Sheet.

Thank you for your time,
NWS Gray

GYX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES:

WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING… Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 6 inches or more possible. Winds could gust as high over 35 mph as the storm exits the region Sunday morning. WHERE…Portions of west central and western Maine. Portions of central and northern New Hampshire. WHEN…From late tonight through Saturday evening. IMPACTS…The potential exists for snowbands that will bring periods of locally heavy snowfall, which will lead to rapid snow accumulations and extremely dangerous travel conditions. Plan on slippery road conditions due to snow covered roads. ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Gusty winds and the weight of snow on tree limbs may bring down power lines and cause power outages.

SKYWARN Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets will take place Saturday to monitor for reports of snowfall, rainfall, flooding, and wind gusts.

Please activate local nets as necessary. Remember, if you don’t hear SKYWARN activity in your locality, and severe weather is happening, help gather reports!

I will not be on the air during this event because I am recovering from COVID-19 and haven’t got my voice back yet, so I am asking our other Net Control Ops to step up and help out with this storm!

Be alert and stay safe,
