Good Morning SKYWARN Spotters,

SKYWARN Activation is requested today due to severe thunderstorm risk in New Hampshire as well as Western and Southern Maine from 3PM – 8PM. 

As always we would appreciate any observations you are able to pass on to us Ifsafely possible, we would also like to have someone come into the office tocover WX1GYX.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected today. A few storms could approach severe limits, especially in Southern New Hampshire and Southwest Maine. Damaging winds will be the main threat, but localized flooding and an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Specific updates about SKYWARN radio ops will follow.

SKYWARN Activation 08/19/2019

Hot and humid weather is expected today with heat index values around
95 in southern New Hampshire and southwest Maine. Scattered showers
and thunderstorms are also expected this afternoon and evening. A
few thunderstorms may reach severe limits with damaging winds, heavy
rain and hail.

SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Gray/Portland will commence by 3:30 PM EDT Monday to monitor for the potential of severe weather this afternoon. This will be the only coordination message as we shift into operations mode. …A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 430 PM EDT
FOR SOUTHWESTERN YORK COUNTY…

At 411 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near York, or 11
miles northeast of Kittery, moving southeast at 25 mph.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include…
Sanford, Somersworth, Berwick, Lebanon, South Berwick, Wells, York,
Ogunquit, North Berwick and Rollinsford.

This also includes…
York Beach, Ogunquit Beach, and Wells Beach.

This includes Interstate 95 between mile markers 7 and 20.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading
killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to
be struck by lightning.
